Active Schools Dundee are looking to recruit more volunteers to build our network to make a difference in schools and the wider community. We aim to provide opportunities for children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity, creating a lifelong love of sport from an early age.

How will Active Schools support me?

 

  • Before you start volunteering with Active Schools you will be given a full induction by a Co-ordinator. You will be given access to appropriate training, equipment and wide range of resources. No prior experience is needed.
  • When you start volunteering, we will take time to understand your skills, availability, and preferences to match you to the right opportunities.
  • We will reimburse you for any travel costs incurred as part of your volunteer role.

 

COVID Secure – We will support you with relevant guidance and current risk assessments. There will be enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures in place to keep you safe.

This is totally up to you. Some of our roles are for one-off events, some are short term and others might need a longer commitment.

Some roles require a particular commitment from their volunteers while others are able to take a more flexible approach. We are here to help find a role that best suits you, your interests and your life.

Yes, of course.

You are under no obligation to keep volunteering if you don't like it. It is always worth talking to somebody before stopping, whether that be your mentor or other volunteers in the organisation. We could then create actions about what would improve your time as a volunteer.

Yes, we will reimburse you for any travel costs as part of your volunteering role.

No! We are inclusive of all volunteers regardless of qualifications or experience. We are looking for personal skills, such as being able to get on with a wide variety of people, being reliable and being enthusiastic - rather than academic qualifications.

On top of the valuable experience gained by volunteering, we support our volunteers' journey with adequate training and sports/coaching qualifications if this is something they wish to pursue.

If you would like to give time but are unable to turn up in person or have little free time then online volunteering could be the answer. Giving time over the web is convenient and flexible and allows people to get involved who might otherwise be unable to.

Online volunteering allows you to complete tasks from home, at work or anywhere!

The kinds of things you can do include:

  • helping with social media;
  • designing a website or newsletter;
  • creating forms and collating data;

We have brilliant opportunities for people as young as 16 to get involved with Active Schools.

Dependent on your availability and the roles you are interested in, there could be opportunities for group volunteering.

Absolutely. When you start volunteering, we will take time to understand your skills, availability, and preferences in order to match you to the right opportunities.
