The Sports Leadership Academy programme facilitates the development of young people in 3rd, 4th and 5th year who are looking to gain sports coaching or officiating qualifications to enhance their future prospects of employability.
The programme took place from the 4th - 9th June and had over 200 pupils from across all secondary schools taking part in 20 different sports coaching or officiating courses, with some of these courses being provided by Dundee & Angus College. Courses on offer included UKCC Level 1 qualifications in Basketball, Netball and Rugby, RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, First Aid, Dance Leaders SCQF level 5 (Sports Leaders UK), Exercise to Music and many more.
The new young leaders are now being supported to take up leadership roles in schools or local clubs, giving them practical coaching experience and enhancing their skills for life and work.
The Sport Leadership Academy is a success partnership work between Active Schools, Dundee & Angus College and Secondary Schools from across Dundee.
