In November 2015 the Scottish Disability Sports (SDS), Young People's Sports Panel (YPSP) was established and has 12 members from across Scotland. The panel meets 5 times a year to be the voice for young people in sport and to act as a consultation group as well as provide strategic direction for SDS Board.
Former international athletes Stefan Hoggan and Lewis McConnell are members of the Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) Young Person’s Sports Panel. Lewis is currently employed with SDS as a Coaching Futures apprentice boccia coach and Stefan is employed with Fife Sport and Leisure Trust and coaches swimming at Carnegie Swimming Club. Both sportscotland and SDS Young Peoples’ Sports Panels have met three times to share good practice and explore how both groups can promote inclusion in their roles.
In July of this year Stefan and Lewis presented to members of the sportscotland panel about their experience of sport and how powerful sport has been for them and the impact it has had on their lives.
