With support from schools, Leisure and Culture and Active Schools, pupils from Dundee attended the Tayside Schools Swimming Gala for pupils with a disability swimming for a place in the Tayside team to compete at the Scottish Disability Sport National Junior Swimming Galas in November.
Tayside sent its largest team for a few years to the SDS Junior Gala for pupils with a physical, visual or hearing disability – 6 swimmers, of which 2 were from Dundee – Shayne McVicar, Rowantree Primary School and Rhys Colliar, Craigie High School. This gala was held at Grangemouth Sports Complex on Wednesday 8 November and was a very successful day for the team, everyone swam well and won at least one medal. Rhys won a Silver medal in the 25m Freestyle back, class 9 and Shayne won a bronze medal in 50m Freestyle front class 3.
On Wednesday 22 November, the Tayside team, with 34 pupils from Dundee – 29 of which were from Kingspark School, travelled to Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow for the SDS National Gala for pupils with a learning disability.
